Legacy by Angostura is to become available in the UK this September, although just two bottles of the £20,000 rum will be available exclusively at Harrods.
Having launched in the US earlier this year to mark the 50th year of independence for Trinidad and Tobago in 2012, Legacy by Angostura is a 50-year-old blend of the company’s “rarest and most precious rums” limited to just 20 bottles throughout the world.
The rum is presented in a 500ml decanter designed by Asprey of London, jeweller to the Prince of Wales, complete with a bespoke and elaborately-designed stopper that took 10 master craftsmen 560 hours to complete.
“Legacy by Angostura is the ultimate expression of Angostura rum,” said John Georges, master distiller of Angostura. “We set out to create the greatest sipping rum ever produced and we believe we have achieved something that is both unique and unequalled.”
The rum itself, which is chill filtered and has been aged in Bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% abv, is described as having aromas of tropical fruit, vanilla, honey and toffee, and a taste of dried fruit with nutty and spicy character.
Three bottles were released into the US market earlier this year, and sold for US$25,000 each. Just two bottles will be available exclusively at Harrods, as part of the London department store’s Fine Rum Feature this September.
